Official Site of Philippe Visson (1942 - 2008)

Philippe Visson is an artist difficult to assign to a particular movement in the history of art for two reasons.  Firstly, because his origins,

education, and lifestyle have defined him as a rootless character, a citizen of the world endowed with multiple cultures, from Russia to the black ghettos of Washington, D.C.  Also, he's self-taught and always needed seclusion to paint (until he started painting in public in 1980).

His art is thus uniquely his own.  His faces, his anti-portraits, reveal the multiple facets of humanity: from Christ to the demonic, from the child to the old, from the Caucasian to the African.
